The Cold Lake Hornets Hockey Club played in the very first WSHL game of 2020, and even though the Hornets lost 6-2, Yauheni Lavrov was able to extend his point streak to four games. Of note, Lavrov has points in all but three games this season making him one of the more consistent point-producers in the league.

Cold Lake was able to tie the game 1-1 at 11:41 of the first period as Lavrov found his only goal of the game. Hinton was set on converting three straight opportunities including 5-on-3 and 5-on-4 power plays to take the 4-1 lead into the second frame.

Hinton found a fifth goal, but, Trey Beck chipped at the Timberwolves lead making it 5-2 at 6:38 of the second, but that would be the final time the Hornets found twine. Riley Tucker gave the Hornets a chance with 42 saves but the scoring touch just wasn't there for Cold Lake, who was hoping for another upset win over Hinton.

Cold Lake and the Edson Aeros are the only two teams in the Provincial Division to earn wins over the Hinton Timberwolves.

The Hornets will see more of the Timberwolves as they continue the series on Jan. 11 & 12 at the Murray Rec. Center in Hinton.
